The Opposite of Learning

Learning stuff in elementary school classrooms has no challange. The (presumably) structured curricullum is designed to choke a whole lot of facts in the shortest period of time. It makes it easy in a way, and it ensures a certain block of knowledge is transferred more or less equally accross students in the same level. However, like always, the real world is nothing like a classroom.

The process of learning in the real world is seldom linear. Even when it is, the whole period may just be a piece of puzzle waiting to be put together later on. The direction of learning may thus be forward, sideways, or even backwards.

Sucking up an immense amount of new facts and tacit knowledge before beginning to understand what it is all about is quite common. People with broad experience, horizon and practices (i.e not just spending their time in classrooms) may adapt to this situation better that those whorshipping just one guru.
