- Business Trip to Medan

The first day of my first real job consisted a lot of musing away a copy of training material. Gladly, there was another lost 2-week-early noob accompanying me for half the day in my very quiet first real office. During rest of the day, just after the managers finally found out that some newbies had arrived, I got recruited by one of the guys we went out lunch with... which turned out to be a Senior (let's put the ranking talk behind, haven't got the slightest idea except that it's quite a long way to go).
Spent the next few days learning to use some analytic softwares, reading the first chapter of CISA manual, exploring Plangi, Otomall and Ciragil for lunches, meeting the team mates and at the end of the week, with training schedule still dead ahead, I was flown to Medan on Garuda (hm, so that's how big 31" seat pitch in 737 is.. better than the cheaper airlines, but nothing to brag about, really). Anyway, this trip is the beginning of a very mobile month. Back in Jakarta on Saturday night, going to Purwakarta on Monday, back for training in Wednesday, Purwakarta again the next week and Medan again for the next 2 weeks afterwards. Still have no clear idea what to do there. I'd stick to the general concept of juniors helping seniors... so far it spares me the overnight works of doing the heavy stuff.
Supposedly I've got plunged into the cool and remotely crazy team. The manager is very helpful, which I likey. After a non eventful landing at Polonia, we went straight into the client's office. The big guys did some planning for the next day's meeting while I got to play with the data analysis assignment. After dinner, before heading to the mess we're staying at, the guys (yep, I'm the only XX in the group) went to a local supermarket and filled a trolley with supplies, i.e. mineral water, potato chips, chocolate bars, oreos, candies, etc.. Hanging out with them would surely help my junking ^^; Note to self: really need to seriously consider membership @ JSX's Mybody gym...
Arriving at the mess, I got the best room (the one with TV, that is) all to myself. Went straight to bed after shower and waking up to the meows of a group of cat standing in the mess' porch, trying to get breakfast from their master. Feels a little like home :)
Got a taste of the famous Medan durian and also the dim sum restaurant @ Sun Plaza (see..? need gym badly). The mall surely lives up to its title as the largest mall in Medan. It's huge! About Medan... it's very similar to other cities in Indonesia, I guess. Although the excessive honking, Betor (becak motor) and the frequent power loss are somewhat unique. Well, it's almost traffic free, so I got no complain.
PS - can anyone tell me why it takes an hour more to reach Medan from Jakarta than to reach Singapore?

Hahaha.. welcome to world of endless travel and living in foreign hotel beds. It's definitely exciting at times. But the fat intake really needs to be monitored. Or else before you know it, ur tummy will soon reflect a spare tire.... just like mine. :(
It takes more hour to reach Medan because the airplane moves slower
