Show Me the Money
 Posted by: ndin | 08/31 2006, 03:10

The university I am about to graduate from is currently expanding its parking lot area quite extensively. Occasionally, I stumble upon someone who give negative comments on this issue but very rare the comments are on the cutting down of the trees. As the world is a matter of perspective, I could not blame anyone for taking the increase of vehicles owned by the campus community as a sign of the rise of financial requirement in getting good education, which is a bad thing considering this is so-called national government university. After all, education fees do rise tremendeously over the few years. Often people stop there, not taking into consideration of other factors, such as the increase in automobile production rates, the increase of GDP and life quality standards, the increase of student intake, etc, etc. Taking from another point of view, even though the number of vehicles increases, the number of those using the public transport is not proven as readily decreasing.

Of course, then again, the highlight is always about the money. As grouping is a very natural instinct for human kind, talking about rich guys-poor guys should not be considered as a debate, I think. In every corner of the world, even the most devastated one, there will always be the haves and have-nots. The poor would think of the other side as disrespectful and inconsiderate while the rich would continue to live the life they know because there is no really any reason not to. I am not saying that humanity is thus irreversibly butchered, but these two extreme groups do live in very different realities. That is why, within the same city, while some millions of people live below the poverty line, some hundred others would shop for Fendi bags in weekly basis.

Anyway, that is just what it is. Life. Demanding all to be equal by obliging the rich to give to the poor rather than spending it would be the concept this country fought to be free from, i.e. communism. Plus, it would simply kill so many commercial industries that may be where the poor relies on. Personally, I think one cannot be envy on the changed condition of an institution of a person. The world grows. The only options left are to go along and adapt or to hold grudge against it.

On the other hand, may be all these perceptions could be blamed upon the conditioning of us as cheap citizens. All those years of government nurturing its people by giving allowance and subsidies here and there is proven as not foolproof. Now everything should be easy and, of course, cheap but without paying taxes. I know, why pay tax when it is going to be used by some corrupted rat anyway?

Another problematic dilemma. I guess, the evil has no root. It is a viscious cyclic tangled spiderweb. Not one person can solve it all. Not to mention that most of those offering to help have their own agenda. WHat a wonderful yet complicated world we live in...
