Twilite Orchestra: Beginning of Fantasy
 Posted by: ndin | 07/29 2006, 03:26

Claiming to be the first time an orchestra show held with a festival class, the effort to get simphonic music closer to the new generation is clearly working. Beforehand, spare me the details of score titles and game characters, I only played the VII and watched Advent Children of the whole series of the game featured last night.

So, started out about half an hour late thus creating a bit of commotion in the queing line outside the entrance, the opening number featuring Twilite Chorus was simply divine. After some themes from the game, Arina from Mocca sung 2 numbers, one of them was Eyes on Me, the most well known soundtrack of the FF. I thought Sherina was going to sing it, but Arina was surprisingly powerful.

Chocobo's Theme with its cute and cheerful tempo was brought by a group of trumpeteers that lived up to the score. Their performance was quite refreshing for the melancholic atmosphere of the evening. Jessica, one of the solo pianist that night, played Tifa's Theme very well, but none compared to the magical fingers of Kevin! Wearing the unusualy casual combo of T-Shirt, Jeans, Sneakers and Long haired wig (in tribute to Valentine, I suppose), his performance was electrifying! I'm a fan!

Sherina, with her cute Kimono designs and hair-do, also sung 2 numbers. She undoubtly meshed well to the amazing play by the Twilites. Then, to spice up the evening, a Japanese rock band, Wasabi, appears. Kinda disappointed at first since I thought they were going to collaborate with the orchestra and the problems with microphones and guitar outputs were a little disturbing.

However, everything was paid off by the last encore number, One Winged Angel
from Advent Children. The truly hypnotizing combo of Wasabi's guitars and drums with the Chorus and amazing score conducted by Addie MS was definitely memorable.

Beside the music, the audience was also entertained by a few costume players. Among which are Aerith, Tifa, a few Cloud Strifes, Valentine, Sadako and some stranded Star Wars fans with light sabres. Even Memes, the conductor's wife came with the main character's costume from the X. Salute to the winning Cloud! He gave Addie something else to swing last night =)

Over all, it was a wonderful experience. Can't wait how the promised 'other gaming themes performance' would turn out.
