New Year at the Beach
 Posted by: ndin | 01/02 2006, 13:27

One sun block bottle, one swimsuit and a pair of shorts, a few wave ridings == one very happy face

Thanks to Vita i got to spend the 2006 new year's eve at a lively bay in Carita, West Java. So, what's so fun about celebrating last year's passing seconds surrounded by salty sand?

Riding the Waves
The day before the big night was more than half the fun, actually. Unlike some people who would choose a decent Internet connection over all the adventure one beautiful beach could offer, i took it all up. Body surfing in the not-so-tame inland sea, being thrown up-down-and-over by the wild jet ski (gotta get some credits to Croft, the thing is not so easy to control after all) and then getting thrown up-down-and-over again by the banana boat ride that successfully turned one hessitant non-swimmer into addiction (way to go, Rif !! o^__^o ). The banana boat in high noon waves was far more exhillirating than roller coaster or white water rafting, i tell ya. Even watching the local surfers in action on the wild afternoon waves was exciting. Gotta learn to do that one day...

I even agreed to be buried in sand in that crowded beach. Yep, it's crowded alright, not only with visitors, but with local business people offering otak-otak, opak, manggis, bananas, tatoo, hair braiding, massage, lulur, body surf boards, beach clothings (which ar still jadul-style with the sunset and coconut tree pictures) and many more who come by to us every few minutes. The view of a few bikini bearers was not so bad also, ain't it Cun ? ^^'

Btw, for all of you girls trying to look beautiful, when you got over those sun burns, the beach could do a pretty good job on scrubbing and smooting your skin ;)

D-Nite at Carita
Despite being at least 150km outside the advanced civilazation of the capital city, boisterous and explosive noise is not rare at this part of the beach. Starting at around 9pm, fellow celebrators have unravelled their stock for the night and lights up the sky with colorful and sometime dzinging fireworks. Forget the traditional small rods burning and emitting yellow sparks, i'm talking about long tubes filled with 5 - 10 balls of fire shooting up the sky. On both capes surrounding the bay, several celebration centers (hotels? clubs?) seemed like they're challenging each other by displaying some larger sparks every now and then.

About 15 minutes to the change of year, the prevailling wind that had been blowing from the sea since the afternoon amazingly just stopped and everyone went all out. The sky was lit up for a good 20 minutes or so, filling the air with the smell of gun powder. No wonder there's so many security people wondering about, if all the supply brought was combined, a decent bomb could have had a pretty night into disaster.

The only thing lacking in the location, just like many other place in this country, is trash bins. The day after all those tubes were burnt together with snack wrappings among other things, the remaining leftovers were left on the beach

On Turning 6
I was quite excited to leave 05 behind mostly because the thing called "Kerja Praktek" (unpaid internship with absolutely exhausting commuting for the sake of academic credits, if you please), one thing i took almost no fun in doing. Zero-six also filled with open doors, unknown outcomes and opportunities, probable answers to the questions i'm currently having and probable new experiences.

Graduation(?) would be one of the major events that would turn my life ups and downs. Along the way, thesis writing, Mapres competition, scholarship search, movie production and staying alive in between would keep me busy at least until halfway of the year.

Resolution?
Being forgetful as i am, making one means forgetting one when February comes along. However, for the sake of having some kind of purpose, i'd like to write something for real and get published. An article, a book, whatever... oh, and i really need to exercise more... all those muscle sore from body surfing is still torturing me till now -.-' pathetic...

Anyway, there's gonna be a lot of good movies coming this year, so i'll be happy for that, especially after the slumps of 2005. So,

Happy New Year, everybody !!

i hope you'll have a good time ahead, achieve all your resolutions and keep the funk alive!
