The university I am about to graduate from is currently expanding its parking lot area quite extensively. Occasionally, I stumble upon someone who give negative comments on this issue but very rare the comments are on the cutting down of the trees. As the world is a matter of perspective, I could not blame anyone for taking the increase of vehicles owned by the campus community as a sign of the rise of financial requirement in getting good education, which is a bad thing considering this is so-called national government university. After all, education fees do rise tremendeously over the few years. Often people stop there, not taking into consideration of other factors, such as the increase in automobile production rates, the increase of GDP and life quality standards, the increase of student intake, etc, etc. Taking from another point of view, even though the number of vehicles increases, the number of those using the public transport is not proven as readily decreasing.
Of course, then again, the highlight is always about the money. As grouping is a very natural instinct for human kind, talking about rich guys-poor guys should not be considered as a debate, I think. In every corner of the world, even the most devastated one, there will always be the haves and have-nots. The poor would think of the other side as disrespectful and inconsiderate while the rich would continue to live the life they know because there is no really any reason not to. I am not saying that humanity is thus irreversibly butchered, but these two extreme groups do live in very different realities. That is why, within the same city, while some millions of people live below the poverty line, some hundred others would shop for Fendi bags in weekly basis.

In an attempt to write a descent, stylish yet annoyingly formal gratitude speech for the grand graduation ceremony, I stumbled on this. Searched under "So Hok Gie", no result
currently contemplating entries under "Pramoedya"..
