- Toba Trip
-
My luck continued with a weekend escape from an engangement in Medan to the Lake Toba ^^(More)
The journey began in a drizzling Saturday morning. The driver took us in a roller coster ride (it seems to be a taboo to drive slow around here) with "Karet" and "Sawit" plantation lining most of the track. There were some spot with potential as the "Windows' hill" :P - tR4vElL0gu3 | Comments (2) | Permalink | Trackbacks (0)

I found it absurd that while one part of this world's population fight to their last blood to protect humanity from a complete moral destruction, an average lifestyle magazine is making humorous anecdotes on the very same 'moral destruction' as it is already very common. Is the first group living in an illusion of too much good in the world or are they fighting regardless the scars that they know are there and incurable?
The opposite's side media is no more objective. The proclaimed 'religious' magazines often offer nothing more than judgemental provocation, digging every last scrap of negativity of every idea coming from the West or so that said. These ideas include Human Rights movement and Gender Equality including domestic violance which is said as a conpsiracy to destroy the Islamic civilization.
Such a soothing spiritual content, refusing to acknowledge a woman's cry just because the whisleblower is someone outside the 'familiy' - 0piNion$, BLabbEr | Comments (2) | Permalink | Trackbacks (0)
- The Opposite of Learning
-
Learning stuff in elementary school classrooms has no challange. The (presumably) structured curricullum is designed to choke a whole lot of facts in the shortest period of time. It makes it easy in a way, and it ensures a certain block of knowledge is transferred more or less equally accross students in the same level. However, like always, the real world is nothing like a classroom.
The process of learning in the real world is seldom linear. Even when it is, the whole period may just be a piece of puzzle waiting to be put together later on. The direction of learning may thus be forward, sideways, or even backwards.
Sucking up an immense amount of new facts and tacit knowledge before beginning to understand what it is all about is quite common. People with broad experience, horizon and practices (i.e not just spending their time in classrooms) may adapt to this situation better that those whorshipping just one guru. - pRiV@te, 0piNion$ | Comment | Permalink | Trackbacks (0)
- Business Trip to Medan
-
The first day of my first real job consisted a lot of musing away a copy of training material. Gladly, there was another lost 2-week-early noob accompanying me for half the day in my very quiet first real office. During rest of the day, just after the managers finally found out that some newbies had arrived, I got recruited by one of the guys we went out lunch with... which turned out to be a Senior (let's put the ranking talk behind, haven't got the slightest idea except that it's quite a long way to go).
Spent the next few days learning to use some analytic softwares, reading the first chapter of CISA manual, exploring Plangi, Otomall and Ciragil for lunches, meeting the team mates and at the end of the week, with training schedule still dead ahead, I was flown to Medan on Garuda (hm, so that's how big 31" seat pitch in 737 is.. better than the cheaper airlines, but nothing to brag about, really). Anyway, this trip is the beginning of a very mobile month. Back in Jakarta on Saturday night, going to Purwakarta on Monday, back for training in Wednesday, Purwakarta again the next week and Medan again for the next 2 weeks afterwards. Still have no clear idea what to do there. I'd stick to the general concept of juniors helping seniors... so far it spares me the overnight works of doing the heavy stuff.

Supposedly I've got plunged into the cool and remotely crazy team. The manager is very helpful, which I likey. After a non eventful landing at Polonia, we went straight into the client's office. The big guys did some planning for the next day's meeting while I got to play with the data analysis assignment. After dinner, before heading to the mess we're staying at, the guys (yep, I'm the only XX in the group) went to a local supermarket and filled a trolley with supplies, i.e. mineral water, potato chips, chocolate bars, oreos, candies, etc.. Hanging out with them would surely help my junking ^^; Note to self: really need to seriously consider membership @ JSX's Mybody gym...

You know.. considering the Lebaran context of all these traffic rules violaters, each of the culprits violates so many other's rights that none would possibly be totally purified since asking forgiveness to each of the strangers being victimized is simply a too tedious of work. - 0piNion$ | Comment | Permalink | Trackbacks (0)
