sunset on pondok indah highway

the ray of light, the sassy mama says. a bliss in the traffic jam, some commuter says. a nice object to test out my 1.2MP RAZR camera, i say...

kinda blurry because of the motion, but at least it managed to captured the "yellow light at the end of the road" (creepy when i put it that way, huh?). btw, this was taken along Pondok Indah highway.

cards playing
 Posted by: ndin | 02/28 2006, 11:44

cards playing are banned in campus...
shame... Undecided

Bridge is included as a legal sport for a reason and i do believe that as long as gambling is not part of it, playing cards could be a fantastic way to exert and pratice strategic calculation, plus it's actually FUN. some of our programming assignments even deal with strategies in cards playing, so why ban playing them ourselves?

again, apart from gambling, how come card playing has such a bad conotation?

shame...

on life, regardless
 Posted by: ndin | 02/27 2006, 10:41

life is beautiful...
or it should be (e.g. if only motorcycles are banned from the face of the Margonda planet)
or it coud've been (e.g. if only i was born rich)

"life is beautiful"
one thing to remember
when the going gets rough (e.g. report deadline approaching in 5, 4, 3, ...)

life IS beautiful
regardless what's gonna happen (e.g. will i be able to go)
regardless who's gonna happen (e.g. will he tag along, should he?)

tell me that life is beautiful
... and i might just believe

Lord of War
 Posted by: ndin | 02/20 2006, 03:02

There's one gun for every 12 people on the planet. The question is, how do we arm another 11?

I personally LOVE this movie, especially its dialogue and naration which sucessfully spices up the true facts with the cheeky dialogues, Hollywood style. Like the following conversation that is funny at first, but not so when you realize that the guys really mean business. Kinda scary in a way:

Can you bring me the weapon of Rambo?
--Andre Baptiste Jr., the son of a self-claimed, sadistic President of an African country

Part one, two or three?
--Yuri Orlov, international arm dealer

I've never seen part two and three.
--Andre

Part one, M-60 then
--Yuri

Without that many actions or shootout, this Lord can still depict a different atmosphere of war, both the cold and hot, from interesting angels such as the journey of a bullet, or the breaking down of a 40-ton carrier aircraft in 24 hours when it landed on the wrong side of the black continent. So, here is the life story of someone who trade arms not because he is evil, greedy or enjoys the fact that his merchandise kill young innocent lives across the globe, but simply because he's good at it (standing at gunpoint, he could still offer a silencer for that particular gun). Anyhow, if he had to kill some familiy members along the way, so be it. Some freaky simplicity, if you think about it.

Is this how you want to be remembered?
--Yuri's father

I don't want to be remembered at all, 'coz if I am, I'll be dead.
--Yuri

The story spans far since Osama was still bouncing checks, up to the current conflicts. Across that time, embargo is a constant joke and law constantly cannot beat the mind tricks of an experienced salesman. As Orlov put it, "When there's a will, there's a gun".

Cage is superb as usual, playing his role with just the right amount of senseless doubt and awkward professionalism mixture. Hawke and Leto compensates for his queery charms and daunting look rather well. However, it's somewhat hard to place Bilbo Baggins as the world's greatest arm dealer.

Of course, I also love this movie just like any other movie that gives me new knowledge. This time, it's the fact that the world leading arm dealers are the very same governments that are the permanent members of the United Nation's Security Council that often decides the fate of the conflicting countries. You can't beat that real life irony in any way.

Life IS funny.
